Leganto - Create Lists for Course Readings & Resources

A guide for instructors.

Publish the List for Students to View

publish button

Make your list available to students by clicking a single button: "Publish".

  • A list isn't available to students until it's published. If it says "Draft" at the top, it's not yet published.
  • You can publish your list at any time.
    • Any changes you make to it later will be visible immediately to students.
    • Any changes made by the library will be immediately reflected in the published list.
    • If you publish before the library has completed fulfillment, some of the items will be visible, but unavailable, until the library clears them.

Publish the List:

  • Click the "Publish" button at the top of the list.
  • Select your audience to control who can see your list when they search Leganto:
    • Course students
      • Only students in the associated course(s) can see the list and access the materials.
    • All students at the institution
      • Any Trent user who can login to Blackboard can see the list.
      • They might not have access to all the materials, depending on copyright and your settings.
    • Anyone
      • Even those with no Blackboard login can see the list.
      • They might not have access to the materials, because only verified Trent users have access to online material purchased by the library.
      • People from outside of Trent will need a link to the list to be able to access it, because they can't login to Blackboard.
  • Click "Confirm".
    • The list status changes to "Published" and it's available for student use.
To Change your Publishing Options, all you need to do is Unpublish your list (this option appears in the '...' menu) and then click 'Publish' again!

Be sure the Blackboard menu link to "Readings & Resources" is visible to students!
  • It's "Unavailable" by default.

Once you've done the steps to this point, your list is ready to go. Of course, you can check out the options for improving your list in the next sections.

The "Student Engagement" section shows how you can generate and monitor interest in the readings on your list.

Why Can't Students See the List?

Two things must be done for your students to see your list:

  1. It must be published in Leganto. You do this by clicking the "Publish" button. (See above.)
  2. The Blackboard menu link to "Readings & Resources" must be made available to students. You do this by clicking the arrow beside the menu item and selecting "Show Link".
