3D Modelling and Printing - How to Guide

A preliminary guide to 3D modelling and 3D printing at Trent University

Overview

The digital 3D space is highly utilized in number of fields such as animation, architecture and engineering. Although there are many different applications, the common goal is the manipulation of objects within a digital domain for a project.

There are many types of 3D modelling software, but the best introduction can be found in TinkerCAD, a simple and free to use software.

The digital 3D space can then be further translated into the physical world through 3D printing. The Odette Critical Making Studio in Bata library houses an Ultimaker S5 for such purposes.

Files can also be found on 3D printing repositories, like thingiverse, where files are freely available to download. It is the patrons' responsibility to ensure their works do not violate copyright.
