Finding E-Books
E-books are available from a variety of publishers in many different ways. This page outlines strategies for finding e-books.

E-Books

The majority of our e-books are included in the Library Catalogue and can be found with any search. The record includes a link to the e-book.

To limit a search to e-books, use the Power Search option and change the location to "E-Book".

The following resources contain collections of e-books. Most offer the option to create an account for yourself and save books, as well as adding notations and highlighting.

A collection of scholarly e-books through ProQuest.
Scholars Portal Books This link opens in a new window
Scholars Portal Books is the largest database of e-books available to the Trent Library. It contains the majority of e-books we purchase and duplicates the content of many of our other providers.
University Press Scholarship Online (UPSO) This link opens in a new window
UPSO is a collection of tens of thousands of scholarly ebooks, with new books added every month. The books are from prestigious university presses worldwide, including Oxford University Press, Read online or download a PDF of a chapter. You can personalise the site, saving searches and favourite books. These books are also included in Scholars Portal Books.

CanLII is a non-profit organization managed by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. CanLII's goal is to make Canadian law accessible for free on the Internet. This website provides access to court judgments, tribunal decisions, statutes and regulations from all Canadian jurisdictions.

Canadian Business and Current Affairs Database (CBCA) This link opens in a new window
Indexes over 1,665 titles in current events, business, science, the arts, and academic information as produced in Canada.
Combines high-quality indexing with direct access to over 500 full text periodicals and daily news sources, over 95% Canadian. Includes journals, magazines and newspapers, both scholarly and popular titles.
Canadian Periodical Index (CPI.Q) This link opens in a new window
Indexing of nearly 700 Canadian periodicals (English and French) with full-text articles from 240 Canadian periodicals. Covers journals, magazines, and newspapers. Not all are scholarly sources - select "peer-reviewed publications" to limit your results.
ProQuest Education Collection + ERIC This link opens in a new window
Provides access to periodical literature in the area of education and related fields. This database covers almost 400 leading journals in the field. It also searches the ERIC database.
Scholars Portal Journals This link opens in a new window
The majority of Trent's full-text e-journals are included in this database. Search them all or browse a specific journal. Many of the journals available from other sites are duplicated on this site.
Web of Science This link opens in a new window
Index to scholarly articles in academic journals. Includes Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index. To limit your search to a discipline, look under "MORE SETTINGS" at the bottom of the search screen. See the guide: Cited Reference Searching - Web of Science/Knowledge.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar
Google Scholar will retrieve more academically focused results compared to regular Google. Go into Settings, click on Library Links, search for Trent University and save Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - get it! Trent as a link. This will allow you to use the get it! feature within Google Scholar.
