Join us for the Love Library Series, a collection of engaging virtual workshops designed to ignite your passion for research and academic success. Whether you're an instructor, a staff member, an undergraduate or graduate student, just starting out or approaching the end of your academic journey, and regardless of your field—humanities, social sciences, or sciences—our series has something for everyone. Each workshop will guide you through essential library resources, research strategies, and tools to help you fall in love with the process of discovery.
All sessions will be offered virtually on the Zoom platform. Sessions vary from 30 to 50 minutes in length with time allotted for questions.
Join us for this 30-minute session that will introduce you to the library's primary search interface, OMNI. You will learn the basics of how to search for a variety of library resources (books, journal articles, film, government documents) in both print and electronic formats. We'll share tips about how to refine your results, identify a scholarly article, and locate the full-text of an article.

If you’re looking for scholarly, peer-reviewed psychology articles, why not avoid all the noise in a Google search and instead search in a database that focuses on psychology research like PsycINFO. This 40 minute session will focus on how to craft efficient searches in PsycINFO, use research specific filters to refine your results, and how to reach the full-text of an article.

This 50-minute session will introduce you to the benefits of using a citation manager - keeping your references organized and creating reference lists. It will include a demonstration of how to use the citation manager Zotero with various library resources and Google; as well as how to integrate it with Word for manuscript preparation.

In this session you will be introduced to the Library’s main academic search tool, Omni, as well as the nursing specific database, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). Through these introductions the instructor will also share tips about how to identify a scholarly/peer-reviewed article, locate the full-text of an article and when to use a library database versus Google.

If you’re looking for scholarly, peer reviewed nursing articles, why not avoid all the noise you may encounter in a Google search and instead search in a database that focuses on nursing literature. This session will focus on advanced searching in the premier nursing database, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). In this session we will review:
• how to think critically about the terms you use when developing a search strategy;
• when and how to combine concepts using Boolean logic - ANDs and ORs;
• when it's appropriate to use wildcards and truncation;
• when and how to use CINAHL subject headings;
• and how to refine and troubleshoot your searches.

This session will introduce you to the benefits of using a citation manager - a tool that that helps you collect, organize, cite, and share your research. It will include a demonstration of how to use a citation manager with the Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied health Literature (CINAHL), Omni and Google; as well as how to use it with Word for in-text citation and building reference lists in APA style.
There are many citation managers available, some free and some fee based. For this session the instructor will be using the free and open-source tool, Zotero, in a Windows operating system. Please keep in mind that the instructor will not devote much time to reviewing the installation process during the workshop. You are welcome to only watch the demonstration, but if you wish to use Zotero before or during this session, you can download the most recent version as well as Zotero Connector (a browser plug-in) for Mac, Windows, or Linux operating systems here: https://www.zotero.org/download/.

The Maps, Data & Government Information Centre (MaDGIC) offers a variety of in-person and online workshops for research data management and data visualization including mapping with various tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and plotting and graphing in R.
