The Ontario Provincial Police is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario.

Our mission is to promote the safety of citizens and the protection of property, through an appropriate balance of law enforcement and problem solving and crime-prevention initiatives. This is based on a philosophy of community policing that involves working in partnership with citizens and other community stakeholders.

The RCMP's mandate, as outlined in section 18 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act, is multi-faceted. It includes preventing and investigating crime; maintaining peace and order; enforcing laws; contributing to national security; ensuring the safety of state officials, visiting dignitaries and foreign missions; and providing vital operational support services to other police and law enforcement agencies within Canada and abroad.
