About Canadian Studies Resources at the Trent University Library

Welcome to the Canadian Studies Subject Guide

According to the Canadian Studies home page, Canadian Studies is an interdisciplinary exploration of the concepts and practices of "Canadianness". Thus, Canadian Studies covers everything from literature to politics, as long as it is about Canada. It is an 'interdisciplinary' study, making it necessary to think creatively when approaching library research. For example, when looking for popular magazines and peer reviewed journal literature there is no Canadian Studies specific database or index. Canadian Business and Current Affairs (CBCA) or Canadian Periodical Index (CPI.Q) are two products that are good starting places, but you may have to look at our other subject guides and search other indexes and databases depending upon your topic. For example, if your topic has to do with Canadian history search America: History and Life because it is a definitive index to North American history journals.
